I told myself that I would not share this with you, but I just have to be real and honest with you. It's hard, because I honestly don't like being quite this vulnerable.  But if I'm not transparent, then I'm some plastic illusion and that's just not my style. So, big inhale, here goes. I was messaging a sweet friend of mine (you know, the kind you can be REAL with), and I shared this with her as we vented our body frustrations with each other.  Yes, I have body frustrations just like you. I told her (this is hard for me to type): "I refuse to put on shorts.  I literally wear dresses and stretchy workout clothes.  I am so mad at myself for having too much freedom." She responded with love and encouragement and validation (like always).  Love her. I went on to vent, "Yeah, eating out and date nights and weekends undo me."  Side note: since House Arrest 2020 unleashed, I have taken 5 trips, had 15+ date nights, and 21  weekends....all perfect opportunities to get off track.  If you ever think I'm just eating perfectly and constantly lifting weights, that is a lie. Anyway, as I was about to end vacation

New month...new week...new day...new plan but back to basics. Sometimes we get off track and start to stray too far from what makes us happy and it’s important to recognize when you need to make a change. I’ve been so out of routine and I took some time this weekend to reflect on how I got where I am and how I can get back to where I feel like myself again. I thrive off of routine, a solid plan and organization so I spent some time last night mapping out a plan for myself and I woke up today with more motivation than I have had in months. It’s an amazing feeling! When something isn’t working for you there is nothing wrong with going back to the drawing board. It doesn’t mean you failed it means you recognize when there is a problem and that’s the first step in fixing the problem.

Felt great getting back in the gym! I started back again in June, then we all got a cold, teething baby that wasn’t sleeping. Life happened. But I’m picking up where I left off. I have to stop pressuring myself to use quarantine to lose weight. For some reason I feel like if I don’t lose the baby weight during this, then I didn’t do shit. And that’s not fair. Life is hard right now, for everyone. Just do what you have to do to survive. Some days that means working out, some days it means taking a nap. I’m trying to find a balance to help my mental health.

First gym selfie in months!!! I don’t even remember the last time I was in a gym.⁣ ⁣ New month. New goals and looking to push myself even more.⁣ ⁣ My goal this month is to continue the 30 day grind, keep doing well with my nutrition and start back weight lifting.⁣ ⁣ It may seem like a lot but you gotta do what works best for you. If you can’t work out in the morning, do it when you get off work.⁣ ⁣ These kids lol....Try your best to get up earlier. I don’t like waking up early, but seeing results got me setting my alarm each day. I involve my kids in my workouts/cardio. Our culture devours any instant gratification we can get our hands on. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Without blinking an eye, you can witness someone’s whole physical appearance change. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My side by side photos are easily the most liked and shared posts on my feed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ (& I hate it.) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Here’s the thing: 1.) They place 100% of the spotlight on the physical appearance & completely disregard all the physiological and psychological gains made between the two photos and 2.) They set us up for failure in ALL sorts of ways. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Your nutrition & fitness journey could have improved: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🤍Your self-esteem 🤍Your pride 🤍Your blood pressure 🤍Your self-confidence 🤍Your sex life 🤍Your mood 🤍Your circulation 🤍Your energy 🤍Your cholesterol levels 🤍Your ability to cope with stress 🤍Your relationships ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ & that’s just to name a few. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Yet we would never know. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Not to mention: the journey itself wasn’t instant. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ & your journey certainly won’t be either. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Remember that cute marshmallow study done at Stamford in the 60s? Super proud of @garrettsmith_4 and his teammates for finishing 5-0 and being champs of the Sweetlax Summer Invitational in Erie, PA for the 2022 bracket. (He’s front and center in this pic!) Also grateful to my husband for driving him 12 hours round trip to be part of this tournament!! This week it’s mama’s turn.😆 G-baby and I are headed to Baltimore for his last summer tourney. Suns out, (water)guns out☀️💪🏼 I have really been neglecting my biceps lately and I don’t have a single excuse about it. Remember when we were flexible 🤣 We would be able to touch our knees to our toes, do the splits, and for those of us who did cheer... toe touches in a row. I have to say I was so bad I barley stretched and realize now how important stretching is before and after workouts. Some of my yoga friends like @ingridyangyogamd & @dr.seemadesai know exactly what I’m talking about 😉 Monday tip! Stretch out those muscles and breathe. Prevents injuries and maybe just maybe we can get our splits back 🤪

1 year ago almost to the day @the_mlr pushed me to sign up at Orangetheory with her under her summer promo, and it was the best thing I could have done for myself at the time. • I was probably more than 40lbs heavier (I didn’t weigh myself at the very beginning) and hated the way I looked. I have always been confident, but I noticed more and more I was trying to hide myself in pictures, or stand different ways to APPEAR smaller. • It started with working out a couple days a week, which grew into adding some running to supplement my workouts because I knew 2x a week wouldn’t cut it, then I started to count calories, lost a few teeth along the way (you can see my story highlight if you’re curious) and ended up 40lbs down and have kept that off for several months. • Moving back home to Phoenix stalled some of my weight loss but I have been back on my game for the last week and have goals for the next month while my husband travels for work. • I will forever be grateful that Melissa took me to Orangetheory, because it truly changed my life, and while I switched it up and go to F45 now, if it weren’t for the team in EP pushing me, I would have quit like always. • Keep fighting for yourself, you deserve to be happy in your own skin. 💪🏻

DAY 8 of 14 completed! Morning Queens and Kings, I had some extra energy to get this workout done early today! I was feeling a lil drained last week due to my cycle coming on early 😫 There were some days I couldn't do the workouts but I did go on walks and do stretches. I'm not totally out of the weeds yet 🤣 but my energy levels are starting to return to normal so I can finish this last week strong 💪🏾 How do you Queens cope with diet and excersing while your cycle is on 🤔😞

Here’s a pro tip to help with never missing a Monday.... make it a habit to get dressed in your workout clothes! . . . I don’t leave my bedroom in the morning until I’m dressed to workout. Sometimes that means I’m wearing them until nap time, but at least I’m ready when the opportunity comes. Something as simple as having to change clothes can prevent you from getting a workout in. If you can, whether you’re a stay at home mom or you work from home, try it out this week! See if it takes a small obstacle out of the way!

Every week I hear people who want to "get fit" or "eat better" and so on. So let's get started! 💪🏼 But how do you get started? How to you start to achieve those goals? You have to commit. Commit to changing your habits. How, you ask? Just like this: 1. KNOW WHY YOU WANT TO CHANGE It could be for any reason: You want to feel more confident. You want to be able to play with your kids or grandkids. You want your clothes to feel good instead of hiding. You want to get off medications. Anything could be your reason, as long as it's for you. 2. SET GOALS AND EXPECTATIONS Change doesn't happen over night. There will be accomplishments, there will be setbacks, there will be good days and bad. Know that this is part of the process. Stay the course and you'll get to the finish line. 3. CHANGE ONE THING AT A TIME This is super important! Just as our brains can't focus when there is overstimulation, our bodies go into overdrive if we try to change too much. You could end up with crazy cravings, too much stress, and lose your focus; causing you to take 5 steps back instead of 1 or 2. 4. HAVE A PLAN Whether it's when you go to the gym, a social gathering, a business dinner; have a plan for what you are going to do when you get there. What will you say when offered the dessert menu? What will your workout be? Have a plan and stay the course as best you can. 5. SWERVE INSTEAD OF BEING KOCKED DOWN When you hit a speed bump, which will happen, let it be a small bump instead of a sinkhole. You miss a workout? Hit the gym tomorrow. You had a large dessert? Meal prep. Missed a meal? Eat as soon as you can. Speed bumps are inevitable, but will not derail you from your goals. 6. CONSISTENCY IS KEY It's the little things we do each day that help us reach our goals. Instead of the one big workout this month, it's all the small workouts every day that help you gain muscle or lose weight. It's not the one salad you had yesterday that improved your heart health, it's all the healthy meals you eat every day. No one thing will catapult you toward your goals. Ladies, should you really be eating less? ⠀ Let’s have a chat. In society women are told that they need to be eating less to be skinny and lose weight. Well that’s not necessarily true, you could be eating less and actually gain weight. Eating too little comes with a host of issues that women face daily that you might not even realize are connected to your diet. ⠀ When you eat too little 🍎 Your metablism slows 🍎 Your hormones become unbalanced 🍎 You have low energy reserves 🍎 Your body will hold on to fat 🍎 You become irritable & develop poor mental health ⠀ Think about it. What’s your typical day look like? You wake up you either fix the kids food and skip yours or grab a coffe for yourself and head straight to work. When lunch comes around you order a salad and come dinner your so busy taking care of everyone else or stuck working that you never realize how little food you put on your own plate. Now you step on the scale and it isn’t budging.... how much did you really eat today?! These daily patterns lead to poor eating behaviors but we can change that. ⠀ The approach I took in this situation was a reverse diet.
