No not some thatched beach side 🏖 hut roof ... but putting on the tiny home roof insulation while trying not to take a dive over the edge as I scramble around the batons. . . I have to admit these are times that age is more than a number when I see how quickly the young lads skip up the tressals and across the roof 🙁 . . Maybe it’s more the fact that the older you get the more memories you have of the times you did crash and burn and how lucky you were to get away with it 😀 . . The list of things getting done does not seem to reduce the list of things that still need to be done ✅

A client came in after getting a sore knee from doing a big WOD at Crossfit the day before. They described the knee pain as an overall ache and heaviness. After some palpation and discussion, I decided to use NKT to test the quads. We found a VMO neurologically under-active and a VL hypertonic. . We continued to do some further investigation. During the workout, the client was doing box step-ups in a single-arm kettlebell front rack. This unilateral loading could have certainly contributed to the knee pain. I decided to test the IAO and EAO (obliques) to see what they were like as they are major players in force transfer. I found the R Internal Abdominal Oblique weak. . During our discussion, prior to the assessment, this client had mentioned that they had a c-section scar. Remembering this I tested the R IAO against the scar. There was certainly a relationship there. I then tested the L VMO against the scar as well, and lone behold there was another relationship present. . Using NKT protocols I released the scar and activated the R IAO and L VMO. . I then retested the IAO and VMO. All tested strong. The VL tone has reduced now the VMO came back online. I then RockTaped the knee for support. Their pain had reduced significantly and with some corrective strategies,​ they will improve the overall function of the body, IAO and VMO.

"Cloudy with a Chance of Pain"⠀ ⠀ Approximately 75% of people with long-term pain conditions, such as arthritis, believe weather affects their pain. ⠀ ⠀ A group of University of Manchester–based researchers and their collaborators conducted a 15-month study with over 13,000 UK residents living with chronic pain called “Cloudy with a Chance of Pain". Participants recorded their daily pain intensity through a smartphone app and GPS location would link to the local weather data. ⠀ ⠀ Results showed that days with higher humidity, lower pressure, and stronger winds are associated with high pain days, a result that reflected the beliefs of many of the participants.⠀ ⠀ To conclude the report says, "a better understanding of the effects of the environment on pain may allow scientists to better understand the mechanisms that cause pain in people, and therefore allow the development of new and more effective treatments for those who suffer with pain"⠀ ⠀

Look familiar? These days Instagram and social media is full of bullshit blogs and posts from influencers and self-proclaimed exercise/rehab gurus. Many of these preach that certain exercises are detrimental to your health and will DEFINITELY lead to all sorts of horrifying injuries and disabling pain. Over my years of strength training and now as a physio student, I’ve lost track of the number of bullshit claims and myths surrounding some exercises. A personal favourite of mine is the shoulder-destroying UPRIGHT ROW *shudder*. All I've heard for years is how performing the upright row causes shoulder impingement and rotator cuff tears. Yet, to this day I am yet to find a single shred of evidence that proves this point.. Across the board, there is a shocking lack of evidence that ANY particular exercise will cause a specific injury... please, show me literature that says otherwise! With that being said, can exercise be dangerous? When performed with improper form, weight, instruction or if there are serious red flags to avoid exercise then yes, absolutely it could be dangerous. BUT, in the vast majority of cases, there is no single dangerous exercise and don’t let anyone try and tell you otherwise!!

Hört er nicht, wie es rumort? Stattdessen sind Phrasen zu hören, wie: „Mehr autofreie Innenstadt geht nicht“. Dabei sind die Fakten doch simpel: Seit Ende der 60er Jahre hat sich die Einwohnerzahl verdoppelt und die Zulassungen für Pkw haben sich verfünffacht! Haben sich die Straßen ähnlich vermehrt? Nein! Es geht also darum, Verkehr zu vermeiden. Dazu muss man u.a. den Verkehrsraum teilen und ihn für andere Lösungen attraktiv machen. Sollen die Bürger ihr Auto stehen lassen, müssen die Alternativen  sicher, einfach und schneller sein. Was kann ein OB tun? Mutig aussitzen bis zur Abwahl, oder vielleicht doch möglichst schnell die eine oder andere Maßnahme zeitlich befristet testen, um zu erkennen, was für Waiblingen passt? Übrigens Herr Hesky, wo soll denn die „autofreie Innenstadt“ sein? The Best Squat Variation? I posted last week about the silly belief barbell back squats are the 'king of all exercises'. I also posted about my 'Move as You Were Made To' programme. Here's another better squat option to work towards for at least 99% of the population. My favourite single leg squat, the skater squat. This has the benefits of lateral stability, balance, co-ordination on top of strength, and doing a half-decent skater is more productive than a twice bodyweight back squat for almost everyone. What is a real problem is if you are strong enough to do a big barbell back squat but can't do this.

Z czym kojarzy Ci się ruch? Zauważyliście, że często promuje różne aktywności w swoim życiu. Dlaczego tak bardzo skupiam się na wszechstronności w sporcie? Od jakiegoś czasu bawię się ruchem, nie robię czegoś nad czym nie mam kontroli czy ochoty. Staram się słuchać własnego ciała. Mimo postawionych sobie celów, jestem elastyczna. Nie wymagam od siebie perfekcji ruchowej, nie każę powielać do nieskończoności w każdym treningu wzorców ruchowych, tylko po to by dążyć do jej idealnej wersji. Uczę się i praktykuję jak najwięcej konstrukcji. Nie mam schematów. Oczywiście wzorce ruchowe pojawiają się w moim treningu, ale nie muszą być one wykonane PERFEKCYJNIE. Cały wpis na fb. 🐼
