Back to my mother's book shelf: I found her very worn, clearly beloved copy of Ngugi wa Thiong'o's 'A Grain of Wheat' from her days as a literature student at what was then the Rhodes university East London campus (now Fort Hare). My mom and I had almost identical subject choices between us, her as a student of 1990 and me as a G08 in Makhanda, and when I started studying English at Rhodes we found that many of the lecturers who taught her were now (then) teaching me. I always loved my mom's voracious note taking and the way she took text apart and really worked with her set works. There has always been a physicality to the way she learns and she imparted this through mind maps and other learning techniques and a deep set love for literature and learning. Books have always equalled love in my life. I wonder why😂. . . . . .

Seeing as this has sparked my first book review on here, you must know right away this is either a great read or a shit read. Well it’s great! Absolute page turner. Totally new twist on the home invasion genre, playing to strong characters, gut wrenching climatic moments that can leave you both triumphant and souls crushed. This novel at its very core is about choice, fear and love. -absolutely love Paul Tremblay’s “about the book” section at the end where he really breaks down the process behind this novel and the choices he made. Momentan lese ich fleißig die Bücher von meinem Atwood Stapel. Der Plan ist, dass ich im Dezember alles an Primär- und Sekundärliteratur lese, was ich da habe oder eben auch noch recherchieren muss. Ab Januar werde ich mich dann ans Schreiben machen und entscheiden, welche und vor allem wieviele Werke ich letztlich als Arbeitsgrundlage verwende. Zur Zeit notiere ich mir relativ wenig außerhalb, sondern konzentriere mich auf die Lektüren, die mit Zetteln, Notizen und Post its zugetackert werden. Wenn ich mir aber etwas notiere, dann immer handschriftlich, denn so kann ich besser arbeiten und denken. Am PC komme ich nicht so gut klar. Wie machst du das?
