Day 7 At the @49ersailing European Championships....one race...the medal race!!! 10th overall!! Day 7 recap: Race 18: 😖🤔😕🙂: 9th Today was our first medal race as a team and we were super pumped per for it. The medal race is for the top 10 boats after the opening series. It’s one race that counts for double points. We had quite a point deficit going into the race so to catch up to 8th was doable, but everything had to lay out right. We had a not so hot start and ended up having to head to the right side, which wasn’t favorable. We were close and the racing around the track was close and intense (as intense as 6kts could be). We finished the race in 9th and held onto 10th overall for the event. Competing often is all about collecting data. Putting more weight on the bar isn’t the only way to get better. I’ve been competing every month and with each meet I have several things I like to focus on. Strength training of any kind is so much more than the numbers we hit. This weekend I really noticed a difference in technique between my lifts on and off the competition platform. I have a tendency to power my snatches on the platform while I do a much better job of getting under the bar in the training room. I’ve consistently done this in my competitions, but I only really noticed the pattern today. My warm ups with my openers by far felt the best than they did on the platform. There are so many variables at play and the only way to get better is to collect more data! For my next competition, one of my primary goals will be getting under the bar on the platform! This is why we compete. We either win or we learn. Huge thanks to my boyfriend Jim who’s behind me every step of the way, I couldn’t do this without him!! Thanks to @ryanerasmus69 for always doing such a great job handling and coaching! He makes competing feel like a breeze. Onward from here! 😊
