The Duomo’s main door is made of bronze and was designed by the Italian sculptor Lodovico Pogliaghi. The images carved on the door represent the major events in the Catholic Faith. The large center left image is the Ascension of Jesus and the corresponding center right image (which my head is blocking sorry lol) is the Assumption of Mary.

The Fushimi Inari Taisha is a shrine dedicated to Inari, the god of rice, in Kyoto, Japan. Located on Inari Mountain, there are other smaller shrines which are accesible through paved paths lined with thousands of bright orange Senbon torii, or gates. The torii make this specific shrine a popular tourist destination, and the shrine is open 24 hours a day. It was a custom to donate a torii if you had a wish you wanted to come true, or to give thanks for a wish that had been fulfilled.

In Page, Arizona, you can find this beautiful slot canyon known as Antelope Canyon. Carved out by flash floods, the canyon’s rock walls mimic the flowing water. The canyon is divided into upper and lower canyons. The upper canyon is the most visited because the canyon is all one level and doesn’t require any climbing. The best time to visit is during the summer if you want to capture light beams radiating through the canyon.

Petra is one of Jordan's most-visited tourist attractions. It was built by the Nabataeans who were one among several nomadic Bedouin tribes that roamed the Arabian Desert. “Rose City” is one of the seven wonders of the world and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Petra is open year round, but the best time to visit is during December-February since those are the coolest months. Petra is a three hour drive from Amman, the capital. There are plenty buses that take you to and from Amman. I highly recommend staying the night in town and visiting the site at least twice. Petra spreads out for hundreds of miles and is impossible to cover in a single day. Be ready to hike! Most of Petra’s best sites are reached on foot. Petra by night is a must (captured in the post). Plan accordingly though, this experience is only available three days a week. The treasury is lit up by hundreds of candles 🕯 and the red glow of the rocks was truly magical.

The roots of the Iznik tiles dates all the way back to the 8th and 9th century Uyghurs and its influence traveling through Anatolia with the Seljuks (anyone else watch Resurrection Ertugrul???). The town of Iznik was the most active center in making these iconic Turkish tiles, hence the name. However, it was not until the Ottoman Empire that the tiles grew in popularity. In the middle of the 16th century the iconic tulips, roses, pomegranates, and hyacinths began to appear in the motifs alongside the turquoise patterns. Today, these tiles can be seen in the famous Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, and Süleymaniye Mosque to name a few.

The Basilica Cistern provided a water filtration system for the Great Palace of Constantinople. This structure was commissioned by Emperor Justinian and built in 532. This is the largest surviving Byzantine cistern in Istanbul, and was constructed using 336 columns. Abdülmecid I, the 31st Sultan, ordered the construction of the Dolmabahce Palace. It was built between 1843 and 1856, and the construction cost five million Ottoman gold lira, the equivalent of $1.5 billion today. Dolmabahce is the largest palace in Turkey and spans 11.1 acres. It contains 285 rooms, 46 halls, 6 hamams, or baths, and 68 toilets. The palace’s design contains elements from the Baroque, Rococo and Neoclassical styles, blended with traditional Ottoman architecture. The Dolmabahce palace is extensively decorated with gold and crystal, and is home to the world's largest Bohemian crystal chandelier. The palace is open everyday from 9-4, except Monday’s. There are many guided tours you can purchase beforehand that include the palace, spice bazar, grand bazaar, and a Bosporus cruise.

If you’re planning a trip to Cappadocia, you must stay in one of the amazing cave hotels. Overlooking the town of Göreme, the Kelebek Special Cave Hotel boasts remarkable views and a chance to experience traditional Cappadocian life. My stay was extremely enjoyable and the breakfast was to DIE for. The cave hotels are carved out of the landscape, similar to how the locals constructed their homes. The soft sandstone made it easy for the ancient people of the area to carve out caves large enough to create their own homes inside. Some of the ancient settlements are located in cliff walls, others in the mountains. At the Göreme open air museum you can see remnants of old churches, monasteries and homes.

When you’re not enjoying the beautiful expanse of Cappadocia from a hot air balloon, you can explore the “fairy chimneys” down below. It took millions of years to form these unique geologic formations. These chimneys started as hardened volcanic ash, or tuff, covered by a layer of basalt. After years and years of erosion, the tuff wore away. The darker basalt layer erodes a lot slower and formed these chimney or mushroom like formations on top of the softer tuff. Nature is such a magical thing 😻

How I plan trips: ACCOMMODATIONS Where you choose to stay depends on your budget and the number of people traveling with you. Have an idea of where you want to stay in the city while searching. @hotelsdotcom gives you a great idea of the hotels and prices in the area. Once you find a place you like, book with the HOTEL directly! That way if you have a change in itinerary or need to cancel a reservation, the hotel will be able to help you then and there and not send you to hotels.com customer service. Hotels sometimes offer shuttles from the airport and back, so be sure to ask about that! Ever since @airbnb started, our family has chosen that as our go to accommodation since we’re a large family. Staying in Airbnb’s in different countries does require flexibility. Many amenities you may be used to aren’t necessarily offered such as heat and AC. Whatever is important to you, check that amenity off while you’re searching. Be sure to read previous reviews of the Airbnb, check the cancellation policy, and check in and check out time. One thing to keep in mind is to check how far the nearest public transportation stop is from the place you’re staying at. You can always message the hosts or ask reception when you’re researching places. If you have a rental car, check to see if the hotel/Airbnb has parking and if they don’t, where the closest parking is and how much it will be. Internet is another important consideration. If an Airbnb offers it as an amenity it’ll be free, while some hotels require you to pay. Breakfast has always been something important I look for when choosing where to stay. Check to see if the hotel offers complimentary breakfast. Some Airbnb’s even stock the fridge for their guests. Lastly, if you have elderly people traveling with you, check to see if there’s elevators. These are a few things to keep in mind when researching where to stay. I would recommend looking up both hotels and Airbnb’s to see what will be the better value. Location and ease are sometimes worth paying a little more for! Happy traveling 😊

Here are some tips on how to find the best priced airfare. Traveling on a budget is very doable. The biggest expense for every trip will be your airfare. There are ways though to find the cheapest flight possible. 1. My first tip is to travel during off season if you’re working, when you’re in school all your breaks unfortunately fall during peak travel season. End of January-February, April-beginning of May and August-September are not as busy travel times, so tickets will be cheaper. 2. Whenever you’re searching for ticket prices, always search while your computer is incognito. If you’re using chrome, hold down command/control shift and N to enable incognito. Flight prices increase if you search for the same flight multiple times. 3. Google flights is best used to compare airlines and dates while Skyscanner is the best to compare price tickets. Airfare Watchdog is another good site to check and compare flight prices. 4. My family uses the United presidential MasterCard, so we get miles for every dollar spent. There are many credit cards now that offer points you can redeem to use towards tickets. The chase sapphire reserve offers 50k bonus points if you spend 4K in the first 3 months. You also get $300 of travel credit and 3x the points on traveling and eating worldwide. Southwest was running a promotion for their credit card earlier this year. When you got their card, you could buy a flight and your companion gets to travel for free. Different airlines are always offering promotions for their credit cards. Just check the website of the airlines you like and travel on most frequently. 5. Usually weekdays are cheaper to fly out. Check flight prices in the month view to see how prices differ during the week. 6. Sometimes airlines make mistakes and flights are significantly cheaper than usual. Most of the times it’s because of human error. The best websites to track these mistakes are Airfare Watchdog and Secret Flying. 7. Pack lightly. Try not to take large suitcases so you don’t have to pay the check in fee for luggage. 8. Use local airlines when traveling in a country. Also convert to the local currency. Sometimes flights turn out cheaper!

Travel definitely impacts me as a person, my interactions with others and my humanity towards the rest of the world. Traveling to other countries, like Pakistan (I’m Pakistani btw 🇵🇰) can be a huge wake up call and always puts my own life in perspective. Things I take for granted, like air conditioning and the opportunity to study and get a well-paid job at the end of it are definitely not available to everyone, purely because of where they were born. To be reminded of all of my blessings is one of the many reasons why I’m a travel addict. You realize how much home and friends and family mean to you when you’ve been away. Traveling also has a tremendous impact on my mental well-being. For a short while, I’m able to to completely leave all my responsibilities behind and enjoy experiences and views that make me unbelievably happy. No matter how insignificant it may seem, the fact that I’ve had an experience abroad, something that was out of the ordinary, creates a memory that I will remember for a long time. Whenever I’m stressed, I look through old trip pictures and they immediately take me back. Like Mark Twain said “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do.” Cliché as this may sound, the money you spend on travel, is an investment in yourself.

Penguins are in fact little waddling humans 🥰🐧. Gentoo penguins breed monogamously, and infidelity is typically punished with banishment from the colony. Their nests are usually made from a roughly circular pile of stones. The stones are heavily guarded and can cause fights between birds if ownership is questioned. One stone is prized by each female, even to the point that a male penguin can obtain the favors of a female by offering her a choice stone. 🤪 (penguins are my favorite animal btw)

Make sure you start planning your trip at least seven months in advance. Summer is peak tourist season in Argentina and hotels and tours get booked very quickly. Pro tips: Try to start your park visit in the early morning. You will be able take amazing pictures and will walk the park without the crowd. It is completely different atmosphere without tourists! We got to the park right when it opened. For an adult during the high season for 1 day the ticker is 250 HRK which is about 34 EUR. All the transportation inside the park is included in your ticket. There are ferries and a small train that will take you from one side of the park to the other. To save your time in lines, there are two entrances to the park. Plitivce Lakes Entrance 1 can get a bit crowded during tourist season. Enter through Plitvice Entrance 2, it is close, and there are way less people there. The territory of Plitvice lakes is huge and you definitely cannot go around the whole park by walking. There is a special transfer service that will take you from point A to point B either by ferry or by train. Unfortunately swimming in forbidden in the park. In case you really want to swim in some turquoise water, you can do so in Krka waterfall National Park in Dalmatia. This park is only 2 hours away from Plitvice Lakes.

There are various ways you can get to Plitvice Lakes. From Zagreb Airport, take a connecting bus (they wait outside the terminal building) to the main bus station in Zagreb. From there, you can then take one of numerous buses to the Plitvice Lakes; journey time is about two hours and 20 minutes. You can book tickets beforehand on the Zagreb Bus Terminal website. If you’re looking for an organised excursion from Split, Omis or Makarska, Sunspot Tours offer small group or private tours directly to Plitvice. During the summer months (especially during July and August), it is possible to use buses to make a day trip to Split. However, that does involve quite a lot of travelling (about 7-8 hours in total) in one day. Check out times on the Split Bus Terminal website.

If you want to see heaven on earth 🌏 you HAVE to go to Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia. There are 16 breathtaking lakes that are separated into upper and lower decks. There are many day excursions you can do while on an Alaskan cruise. Guest services offer a variety of activities that can be planned while on board. Be sure to book what you’d like to do on your first day aboard because activities get filled up. If you didn’t plan an excursion beforehand on board, as soon as you get off the boat there are always stalls offering different guided tours and activities. Some of the activities include go karting through beautiful scenery, whale watching, kayaking, and so much more. In Juneau we went on a whale watching tour. We purchased our tickets from a stall by the dock. The ticket was $80 a person and was a full day trip. We were extremely fortunate enough to see humpbacks bubble feed. Bubble-net feeding is a learned feeding method. Humpback whales use vocalizations to communicate to effectively and efficiently execute the bubble net so they all can feed. As the group circles a school of small fish they use a team effort to disorient and collect the fish into a net of bubbles. One whale will begin to exhale out of their blowhole beneath the surface at the school of fish to begin the process. More whales will also start to blow bubbles while continuing to circle their prey. They collect the fish into a tight circle while creating a net of bubbles to surround the fish and keep them from escaping. One whale will sound a feeding call, at which point all whales simultaneously swim upwards with mouths open to feed on the trapped fish. It was an absolutely amazing site to witness.

One of the highlights of our Alaskan cruise was seeing the Margerie glaceier. Only two cruise liners are allowed to sail through Glacier Bay in Alaska, Holland America and Princess cruises. I sailed on the Eurodam, a Holland America cruise liner at the end of July 2018. Sailing into Glacier Bay, I could see a stark difference between the deep ocean blue and the pristine turquoise of the glacial water. Glacial water contains silt that is created when rocks underneath the surface of the ice are grinding from the movement of the glacier. The sunlight that reflects off this rock flour is what gives the lakes their spectacular turquoise blue or green color. The water reminded me of the lakes in Plitvice in Croatia.

The best way to see all three bridges is by the marked trails. You’ll need to set aside about four hours to hike each trail. The Owachomo bridge is the most accessible and the hike is only about 45 minutes round trip. There are short hikes to various bridge viewpoints as well. The best time to visit the dunes is before sunrise or sunset. Famously known at the Romantic Rhine River Valley, the Rhine cuts through the Rhenish slate mountains, flowing between hillside castles and vineyards. Medieval castles and gothic churches sit high above the river. Most of the castles were built by local robbers who extorted ship tolls from merchant ships by blocking their passage with iron chains. In 2002, Unesco designated this part of the Middle Rhine River, known as the Oberes Mittelrheintal, as a World Heritage Site. There are river cruises available that take you from town to town, but are pricey. Most cruises are about 2k per person. It’s more cost efficient to drive along the River.

When it comes to buying tickets, my motto is buy first, think later. Insane airfare deals can sell out literally within a hour. I highly recommend buying the flight if you come across an amazing price, and then checking to see how much the airfare usually is afterwards. Every airline offers a 24 hour free cancellation, so if you find something better you can easily cancel. Please don’t wait and think you’ll find a better deal, you’re not going to lol. Also, the closer you get to the trip date, flights will only get more and more expensive. When it comes to planning trips I think the best option is to just have a time frame of when you’d like to travel and go to the place that has the best deal. I use the Secret Flying app and regularly check Skyscanner for flight errors and flight deals. Most of the trips my family has taken were decided by the lowest amount of miles during a time we were wanting to travel.

You can fly into Flagstaff, AZ which is only an hour and a half away from Grand Canyon, or you can fly into Las Vegas or Phoenix. Though the latter two cities are further out, the airfare might be cheaper. Be sure to book lodging well in advance if you’re going to stay in the park. Summer is peak tourist season. Definitely rent a car so you can enjoy all the state has to offer. Three hours away from the North Rim in Paige, AZ is Antelope Canyon. You must book a tour in advance to see the slot canyon; that is the only way you’re allowed in! 20 minutes from the Antelope Canyon is Horeshoe Bend. Petrified Forest National Park is three hours from the South Rim. It’s famous for its petrified logs and known for the Painted Desert Inn. I would recommend at least 2 days in Grand Canyon and one day for Antelope Canyon and another for Petrified forest.

Traveling on a budget is very doable. The biggest expense for every trip will be your airfare. There are ways though to find the cheapest flight possible. 1. My first tip is to travel during off season if you’re working. When you’re in school all your breaks fall during peak travel season. End of Jan-Feb, April-beginning of May and August-Sept are not as busy travel times, so tickets will be cheaper. 4. My family uses the United MasterCard, so we get miles for every dollar spent. Sometimes flights turn out cheaper when you convert.

Manuel Antonio National Park is the most visited park in all of Costa Rica. Next to the town of Quepos, this national park is home to an array of animals. We hired a tour guide for $80 to take us through the park. He pointed out various plants and animals as we made our way to the beach. In my opinion, the guide was a waste of money. If there is an animal worth seeing in the forest, other tourists are very friendly and will let you know. During our walk through the park we saw three SLOTHS 🥰, numerous coatis (they look similar to raccoons), and white faced capuchin monkeys 🐒. Be careful not to leave your bags lying around on the beach if you have food! The monkeys 🐵 are skilled in the art of thievery and will run away with any snack left unattended.

The goosenecks are perfect examples of the geologic formations called incised meanders. Over millions of years the San Juan river cut through layers of rock as the surrounding landscape slowly rose. There’s actually two goosenecks side by side. There is a $5 fee per car and the park is open everyday, all day!

The French Riviera, or Côte d'Azur, is the Mediterranean coast of southeastern France. The most famous cities found in the French Riviera are Cannes, Saint Tropez, and Nice. You can enjoy breathtaking views of the glistening blue water along a walk on the Promenade ded Anglais, or up high from Castle Hill. There are many ways to enjoy the city from biking to sailing, or walking around Old Town Nice. Be sure to book rentals at least five months in advance if you plan on traveling during June/July. In my experience TripAdvisor always has the best priced tours which are highly rated.

Sunflowers 🌻, or Girasoles (sunturners) in Italian, are named after the ability of the flower to grow in the direction of the sun. Heliotropism, or growth movement induced by the sun, can also be seen in other plants such as cotton, poppies and Daisys. The best time to see the sunflowers in full bloom in Tuscany is in mid July. By the end of August the yellow fields have browned and harvesting starts in September.

Czeching out the view 😻 . . The Charles Bridge or Karlův Most, is one of the most iconic and historic attractions in Prague. The bridge crosses the Vltava river and its construction started in 1357. The bridge connects the Old town with Lesser Town. During the day the pedestrian bridge is filled with musicians, painters, vendors and tourists during the summertime. The best time to visit is early in the morning to avoid crowds.

The best panoramic view of Death Valley can be seen from the terrace at Dante’s View. The lookout point is on the north side of Coffin’s Peak and south of Furnace Creek. You can pickup a map from the visitor center when you first enter the park. The best time to visit Dante's View is in the morning, when the sun is in the east. You can see Badwater Basin down below which is surrounded by salt flats, and happens to also be the lowest point in North America at 282 feet below sea level.

“King’s Landing” (for all you GoT fans) or the “Pearl of the Adriatic” is known best for its sea of red terra-cotta tiled roofs. In 1991, the Yugoslav army attacked Dubrovnik and most of the damage was to the the city’s iconic rooftops. The roofs were carefully rebuilt and now serve as a symbol of the city’s resilience. I would recommend starting your day with the cable car to get a gorgeous panorama view of the Old Town and Elaphiti islands.

Costa Rica 🇨🇷 is the perfect vacation for adventure lovers. From zip lining to waterfall repelling to white water rafting, Costa Rica has it all. I went to La Fortuna, Monteverde, and Manuel Antonio, and I was in Costa Rica for a total of 10 days. In my opinion, you only need 4-5 days in Costa Rica and only need to visit La Fortuna to experience everything the country has to offer. There are so many different activities that planning the trip may seem a little overwhelming. I would start by focusing on the activities that you can only do there. The must do activities are white water rafting, zip lining, waterfall repelling, atving, and a chocolate tour. Desafío is one of the highest rated adventure tour companies and I booked most my activities through them on viator.com. Every tour company picks you up and drops you back to your lodging, and most even offer lunch in the ticket price. There’s no need for a rental car in La Fortuna. La Fortuna is easily accessible by bus that leaves straight from the San José airport. Bus tickets are $45 for an adult, and if you arrive later then the two schedules times, there are also private drivers available.

Iguazu Falls is the largest waterfall system in the world. The falls can be accessed from Brazil or Argentina however, Argentina is home to 80% of the falls. In Argentina the closest airport to the falls is Cataratas del Iguazú International Airport. The Devils’ Throat has the best view of the waterfalls and is about a 25 min walk to the lookout point. The spray and wind generated from the falls was INSANE. We returned to our car completely drenched and in complete awe of another amazing creation by Mother Nature.

I’ve been to Istanbul twice and I’ve eaten at this restaurant a total of nine times. If that doesn’t tell you how DELICIOUS these kabobs are, I don’t know what will. Sultanahmet Koftecisi is located in the old city and is less than a five minute walk from Hagia Sofia. You must get the beef kabobs and lentil soup. My mouth is literally watering writing this post 😻

Woke up at 3am to take a camel ride and watch the sun rise above the sand dunes in the Sahara. One of the most spectacular views I’ve ever witnessed. The sand was a beautiful mixture of reds and yellows. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of the painting the sun creates as it rises and sets 😻. Also, how cute is this dromedary camel 🐪.

The Dome of the Rock, or Qubbat al-Sakhra, was one of the first Islamic buildings ever constructed. Not to be confused with Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Dome isn’t a mosque 🕌. At the center of the The Dome is a large rock believed to be the place where Abraham was going to sacrifice his son Ishmael. The walls and ceilings are covered in small mosaics as well as an inscription that contains verses from the Quran.

Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque, built in 1618, is one of the most famous sites in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The mosque can be seen from the beautiful Sari Most (the old bridge) that is the most iconic attraction in Mostar. Tourist can also climb up the mosque’s minaret. I personally loved the bright colors of the tiles and hand painted designs, as well as the intimacy of the mosque. The mosque has the same Ottoman architecture found in the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, and was such a peaceful place to pray in the middle of the day.

I absolutely love taking classes or doing activities when traveling. In Nice, my friends and I took a perfume making class at Molinard Parfums. I bought our workshop tickets off of TripAdvisor for $80 per person. We learned about the top, middle, and base notes from a master mixologist. All of us created our own personalized perfume from a selection of over 90 different scents. Molinard saves every client’s perfume card, so you can reorder your custom perfume from back home!

If you want an amazing FREE view of the Chicago skyline go to the Adler Planetarium. Parallel park along the water, take the stairs down to the water and take in this amazing view. If you’re going during winter like I did, wear 100 layers of clothing because IT IS SO SO COLD. Also be careful, don’t face-plant on the ice 😂 I couldn’t feel my body for the next half hour, but anything for the gram right???

Ciao! So my dreams of finding my Pablo in Italy didn’t exactly pan out. There I was riding along the beautiful Lake Como on my cute blue Vespa, the wind in my hair when BAM 💥! Next thing I know I’m waking up to ice cold water being poured on my face. Long story short, I crashed into a wall, got a concussion and spent the day in the hospital. The accident definitely affected the rest of the trip, and the post concussion symptoms I had for months afterwards were horrible. The idea of riding vespas in Italy sounds absolutely amazing, but unless you have a lot of experience with motorcycles I would really suggest you skip this activity. It’s honestly super dangerous and the drivers in Italy are really aggressive. There are options to go on Vespa tours with a guide which allow you to ride on a Vespa with an experienced driver. Here’s the website we rented from in Lake Como https://www.enjoylakecomo.it/ Swipe to see me chilling in my neck brace 😂
