I•N•T•E•R•M•I•T•T•E•NT▪F•A•S•T•I•N•G "IF" is an eating pattern that cycles between periods of fasting & eating. I have been doing IF for 6 years and still love it. Although it may not be for everyone, listed below is what a typical eating day looks like for me. I do a 16 hr fast followed by an 8 hr eating window. The science behind IF is that when your body is in the "fed state," it is harder for your body to burn fat bc insulin levels are high. When in the "fasted state," your body has a much easier time burning fat bc insulin levels are low. We reach the fasted state approximately 8-12 hrs after our last meal. That being said, this is a really good method to maintain muscle mass while becoming lean/dropping fat. You don't need to spend every day at the gym. You don't need to eat bland food. You don't need to measure food or count calories. You can enjoy all of what you normally consume, just keep your eating within an 8 hr time window. Also to note: I only eat carbs at night when cortisol levels are low. Take a look at "Carb Nite" for more info about this methodology. Finally: I am aware that I eat foods higher in fat than my peers. We are all so different so try experimenting and please do what works best for YOU!
